Fall has arrived, and Philadelphia is a hauntingly underrated city for Halloween festivities and scares. Cornerstone is perfect for your home base on this year’s Halloween or fall getaway. Here are our favorite spooky Philadelphia destinations:
- Eastern State Penitentiary
Renowned as one of the most haunted sites in America, Eastern State Penitentiary opened in October of 1829 and was operational until 1970. Some of its most notorious prisoners include Al “Scarface” Capone and “Slick Willie” Sutton. Today, Eastern State stands tall and foreboding against the landscape, just waiting for innocent tourists to be scared to their bones by the spirits of prisoners that still reside…
Late September to mid-November, Eastern State runs their Halloween Nights events, which include FOUR haunted houses, a fully immersive prison walkthrough, beer garden, and more. Not only that, but they have year-round daytime tours. Through Cornerstone, you can get tickets to all daytime tours at a discounted price of $4 off your ticket!
- Philadelphia Ghost Tour
Given that Philly is one of the oldest major cities in the country, you can imagine it’s haunted from top to bottom. Philadelphia Ghost Tour even calls it America’s most haunted city! But don’t take our word for it – see the haunts up close for yourself. Ghost Tour has nightly tours of Independence Park, Old City, and Society Hill, which you can book as a public or private tour. There are also special group tours of locations such as a historic Society Hill Mansion and the haunted cruiser Olympia, docked at Penn’s Landing.
- Apple and Pumpkin Picking
Now, if you’re not one for spooks, don’t you worry. Do you want a wholesome fall outing without any of the troubled ghosts and malevolent spirits? Philly’s got you covered. There are numerous beautiful and historic orchards around the Philly area, some across the bridge in New Jersey and many in the four counties bordering the city. Some of the most popular include Hill Creek Farms (Mullica Hill, New Jersey, 30 minutes from Philly), Indian Orchards Farm (Media, Pennsylvania, 40 minutes from Philly), and our assistant innkeeper Pearl’s personal favorite, Linvilla Orchards (Media, Pennsylvania, 30 minutes from Philly).
So, friends, what will you do when you come to stay at Cornerstone? Whatever your fall fancy, you can find it all in Philadelphia. We look forward to seeing you this season!
Cheers!
